The United States and Iran have received a ceasefire plan that could come into effect on Monday, thus reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to a source cited by Reuters.
The plan, developed by Pakistan, calls for an immediate ceasefire, followed by a comprehensive agreement. The source mentioned that all elements must be agreed upon on the same day, and the initial understanding will be formulated in the form of a memorandum of understanding. The agreement, provisionally named "The Islamabad Agreement," would include a regional framework for the strait, and final discussions are expected to take place face to face in Islamabad.
Although Iran has expressed its desire to achieve a permanent ceasefire, it has not yet confirmed its commitment to the proposals. The final agreement is expected to include commitments from Iran to abandon its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
Previously, Axios reported on the preparation of a 45-day ceasefire by the US, Iran, and mediators.
