The U.S. Department of Defense has revoked the credentials and access of the majority of national and international media to its headquarters at the Pentagon, following the rejection of new rules imposed by the institution. These rules, announced in September by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, impose strict limitations on journalists' access and the use of sources, as well as penalties for unauthorized requests for public information.
Major publications, including the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Reuters and Associated Press agencies, have refused to accept these conditions, and the deadline for signing the commitment expired on Wednesday, leaving them without credentials. Dozens of journalists have left the Pentagon offices, and only the conservative One America News network accepted the new rules. Additionally, under Hegseth's leadership, weekly press conferences and detailed briefings on military operations have been suspended.
