The White House announced on Friday a rule that restricts access for accredited journalists to areas near the Oval Office, including the office of press secretary Karoline Leavitt. According to a memorandum issued by the National Security Council (NSC), reporters can no longer enter 'Upper Press' (Room 140) without a prior appointment with an authorized White House staff member. This decision is justified by the need to protect sensitive information and to ensure more effective coordination between NSC staff and the president's communications team. The measure took effect immediately and follows similar restrictions recently imposed on the press covering the activities of the Department of Defense, which has led several journalists to give up their credentials.
