On Wednesday, dozens of reporters submitted their access credentials and left the Pentagon building in protest against the new restrictions imposed by Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. These rules, deemed by the government as 'common sense', require journalists to obtain approval for any information intended for publication, risking the loss of accreditation otherwise. Approximately 40-50 journalists left together, including major news agencies such as Reuters and The Associated Press, which refused to sign the new rules. Criticism of these measures also comes from within the press community, where many believe that the new rules threaten press freedom. Hegseth, a former journalist, has been accused of limiting the flow of information and adopting a restrictive transparency policy. Although some news agencies have accepted the new rules, most have promised to continue covering military activities, regardless of the restrictions. Lawyers specializing in press rights have emphasized that these measures could violate the protections offered by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
