Russians have been facing mobile internet disruptions for over a week, which has raised fears that authorities are preparing stricter control over online activity. Residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg have reported difficulties accessing websites and applications, with some completely losing signal, affecting their communication.

Authorities have justified these disruptions by the need to ensure security, stating that the measures will remain in place as long as necessary. Human rights activists suggest that these outages could be related to testing a 'whitelist' system, which would limit access to a restricted number of government-approved sites. In this context, sales of radio stations and pagers have significantly increased, and the demand for printed maps has nearly tripled. Russia continues to impose restrictions on the internet, blocking popular applications and promoting a state-supported application, Max, which could be controlled by security services.
