The interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that all contracts necessary for the resumption of work at the Iernut power plant will become operational by mid-September. The works, which reached a stage of 90% before the bankruptcy of the Spanish company that coordinated them, are essential for the national energy system, serving to replace coal-fired units. The power plant, managed by Romgaz, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, to enter testing during the winter, and to operate at capacity in the first quarter of 2027.
This will contribute to balancing energy production, in conditions where the center and west of Romania face a deficit, while the southeast records a surplus. Bolojan emphasized the importance of the plant for the economy of Mureș County and thanked the teams involved in the project.
