The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced on Saturday the arrest of over 20 individuals for threats and participation in the planning of attacks against the leadership of Roskomnadzor, the communications regulatory authority in Russia. The FSB accused Ukrainian intelligence services of recruiting young Russians through social media platforms like Telegram to commit extremist and terrorist acts.
Additionally, security forces have detained seven individuals since April who were planning attacks against officials from Roskomnadzor. Internet access restrictions and social media limitations have generated discontent among the population, especially among the youth, affecting the popularity of President Vladimir Putin. The Central Electoral Commission announced internet access restrictions during the legislative elections, citing public safety reasons, which sparked skepticism among citizens. In recent years, the Russian police have arrested young individuals suspected of being recruited by Ukraine to commit acts of sabotage.
