The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that President Karol Nawrocki will oppose the European SAFE plan with a veto, which would allow Poland to obtain 44 billion euros for defense investments.
Donald Tusk, shaken by this decision, believes that blocking the program is a serious mistake, considering the context of the global conflict and the war at Poland's border. In light of this veto, Tusk is working on a "plan B" to save the funds.
Nawrocki, affiliated with the conservative opposition, refuses to adopt the program in the form of a loan and proposes an alternative called SAFE 0%, with unclear details. Deputy Przemyslaw Czarnek from the Law and Justice Party prefers American and South Korean arms purchases, believing that the European program is "ineffective" and that the objective should be to ensure immediate security.
Nawrocki's veto could reduce the budget for law enforcement and strategic infrastructures by two billion euros.
