Poland, through the Deputy Minister of Defense, Pawel Zalewski, announced that it is interested in obtaining unused funds from other countries from the SAFE (Security Action For Europe) instrument. This instrument is part of the ReARM Readiness 2030 plan, presented by the European Commission in March 2025, which aims to mobilize up to 800 billion euros to strengthen the defense capacity of the European Union by 2030.
Poland has signed a loan agreement through SAFE, securing 43.7 billion euros for strengthening the army. Zalewski mentioned that there are unused funds and that Poland will negotiate with the European Commission to include the desired projects in this mechanism.
Additional funds could be used for the acquisition of military transport or refueling aircraft. The projects must meet the requirement that 65% of their value be contracted with companies from the EU or the European Economic Area.
