The National Museum of Romanian History received 5.7 million euros in compensation for heritage items stolen from the Netherlands, the money being paid by an insurance company.

The Romanian state has requested compensation of 5.7 million euros without waiting for the completion of the criminal investigation regarding the theft of four heritage items from the Netherlands. The money has been transferred to the National Museum of Romanian History, which was harmed. In the case of recovering the artifacts, they will be evaluated and, if restoration is needed, the costs will be deducted from the compensation. The theft occurred in January 2025, at the Drents Museum, when thieves caused an explosion and stole valuable pieces, including a gold helmet and Dacian bracelets. The criminal investigation is still ongoing.
