The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the sixth increase of the minimum wage in 2022, which will come into effect on April 1, 2026. The minimum wage will be raised from 880 euros to 920 euros, part of a cumulative increase of 270 euros since 2019.
The government justifies this increase through fiscal responsibility, fulfilling promises, and the positive impact on social benefits. Mitsotakis emphasized that the decision will benefit not only minimum wage employees but also public sector workers and social aid beneficiaries.
The Greek economy grew by 2.1% in 2025, and the unemployment rate was 7.7% in January, with a record number of employees exceeding 4.4 million. The government's long-term goal is a minimum wage of 950 euros and an average salary of 1,500 euros by 2027.
