The Israeli Army (IDF) has decided to ban the use of Android phones for senior officers, requiring them to exclusively use iPhones for official communications. This measure, reported by Israel’s Army Radio and The Jerusalem Post, aims to reduce the risks of intrusions into officers' phones, in the context of escalating regional conflicts and cyberattacks. The ban targets commanders from the rank of lieutenant colonel and above and undermines Google's efforts to promote Android as a secure platform, especially after the Pixel phone was approved by the U.S. Department of Defense. The IDF will prohibit the use of any military mobile phone that is not an iPhone for operational or command purposes, in the context of an Iranian cyber campaign targeting Israeli officials.
