The Pakistani army has decided to abandon WhatsApp and adopt WeChat from China, citing security concerns.

The military leadership has issued a directive prohibiting the use of the Meta messaging platform, considered vulnerable to monitoring operations, hacking, and data theft. The measure targets all military personnel, including officers and soldiers, and is part of a broader strategy to enhance security against cyber threats.

WeChat, the dominant platform in China, will become the main communication medium for the armed forces, integrating messaging, voice communications, and file sharing. This change reflects the growing closeness between Pakistan and China, in contrast to India, which has banned WeChat for national security reasons, citing espionage risks.
