The Executive Vice President of the Commission, Henna Virkkunen, announced that requests for information have been sent to four major online platforms, including Snapchat and YouTube, to assess how they protect children. These platforms, with over 45 million users in the EU, must comply with strict regulations. If a violation is suspected, the Commission can open official investigations, and penalties can reach up to 6% of annual global revenues.
