This initiative responds to the increasing pressure in Europe to ensure the safety of minors on the internet, considering the negative effects of addictive platforms and exposure to violent content. Although the proposal does not have formal legislative power, it directly targets the leaders of tech giants, such as Mark Zuckerberg, and emphasizes the importance of enforcing European digital laws.

The initiative arises in the context of the European Commission's investigations into possible violations of the Digital Services Act by platforms such as Meta and TikTok. The proposal, formulated by MEP Dóra Dávid, will be put to a vote in the European Parliament's Internal Market Committee, and is set to be debated in plenary in November.
