The European Commission has identified that the platforms Facebook and Instagram, owned by Meta, do not comply with European Union legislation, particularly the Digital Services Act (DSA), due to the lack of simple and effective methods for users to report illegal content, including child abuse and terrorist content. Meta has been accused of using "manipulative designs" that complicate the reporting process.
The Commission also highlighted the difficulties users face in contesting account suspension decisions, as well as insufficient access to data for researchers. If the findings are confirmed, Meta risks fines of up to 6% of its global revenue. Representatives of Meta dispute these allegations, claiming that they have implemented changes to comply with legal requirements.
