The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has been fined 120 million euros by the European Commission for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). The violations were investigated for two years and included granting a 'verified' checkmark to users and a lack of transparency in advertising. The Commission found that X did not comply with transparency obligations, including providing a list of advertising agencies and access to data for researchers. The fine is divided into three sections: 45 million euros for the checkmark, 35 million euros for advertising regulations, and 40 million euros for data access. Musk has 90 days to present an action plan and can appeal the decision. This ruling could affect relations between the EU and the US in the context of technology regulations.
