The European Commission proposed in 2021 a revision of energy taxes to combat climate change, including taxes on aircraft and ship fuels. However, European governments opposed it, and are now considering a 10-year delay for these taxes. During this period, only small aircraft and recreational boats could be taxed. The amendment requires unanimous agreement from member states, and discussions are scheduled for a meeting in Brussels.
