The American Congress adopted the defense strategy for 2026 on Wednesday, reaffirming support for U.S. alliances in Europe, in contrast to the recent positions of President Donald Trump. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) proposes a budget of over 900 billion dollars, with a 5 billion increase compared to the previous year. The bill was approved with 77 votes in favor in the Senate, after also passing the House of Representatives, and includes measures to strengthen security in Europe, prohibiting troop reductions below 76,000 for more than 45 days.

The NDAA allocates 400 million dollars for security assistance in Ukraine and invests in military infrastructure in Poland and the Baltic states, considering the threats from Russia and China's activities. Congress also authorized the 'Baltic Security Initiative,' with an annual budget of 350 million dollars for fiscal years 2026-2028. This law reflects a pro-European direction, strengthening the U.S. commitment to NATO and traditional allies, despite the fluctuating positions of the Trump administration.
