Thailand has announced the suspension of the peace agreement with Cambodia, signed at the end of October, following an explosion from an anti-personnel mine that injured two Thai soldiers. The agreement aimed to end hostilities between the two countries, which faced off at the border for five days in July, resulting in 43 deaths and the evacuation of over 300,000 civilians. The spokesperson for the Thai Government stated that compliance with the Joint Declaration will cease, also affecting the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers.
The Thai Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, emphasized that the threat to security has not diminished, contrary to expectations. The Cambodian Ministry of Defense reaffirmed its commitment to peace but did not comment on the mine incident.
