On Friday, Germany recorded an absolute temperature record, reaching 41.3 degrees Celsius in the city of Saarbruecken, according to preliminary data from the German Weather Service (DWD). This value exceeds the previous record of 41.2 degrees Celsius from July 2019 and is part of an extreme heatwave affecting Europe. Meteorologists warn that temperatures could rise even further, reaching 42 degrees Celsius over the weekend. The heatwave has led to the cancellation of several cultural events, including the Bad Homburg Open tennis tournament and a children's festival in Cologne. Additionally, the high temperatures are affecting ecosystems, posing risks to fish in rivers. Across Europe, 150 million people have been exposed to temperatures of at least 35 degrees Celsius, and the heatwave is spreading towards Central Europe and the Balkans. Romania is also preparing for an extreme heatwave starting Sunday, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities recommend protective measures to avoid health issues associated with the heat.
