The Tapinoma magnum ants, native to the Mediterranean region, are spreading rapidly in northern Germany, including cities such as Cologne and Hannover. These species form super colonies of millions of individuals, threatening technical infrastructure. In cities like Kehl, power and internet outages have already been reported. Although not officially recognized as invasive, researchers are working with authorities to control their spread. The species has also been spotted in other European countries such as France and Switzerland.
