Stefano Lotumolo, an Italian photographer, experienced moments of horror in Nepal when a massive flood was triggered by the detachment of a glacier from the Himalaya slope.
While on a bus, the passengers quickly realized the danger and had less than a minute to evacuate and seek higher ground.
Lotumolo and 50 others took refuge in a hut, waiting for rescue until morning. He describes the hellish noise of the water, saying that "there was a loud roar of death." The flood resulted in the loss of over 500 lives, and hundreds of people are missing. Lotumolo, grateful to have survived, reflects on the traumatic experience, saying: "I saw death everywhere, but I am alive."
