Eight students from two schools in Houston were rescued unharmed after being trapped for nearly four hours on the Iron Shark roller coaster, located at Pleasure Pier in Galveston, Texas. The incident occurred when the car stopped at the top of a vertical drop, leaving the young people with their feet suspended in the air, exposed to the sun. Firefighters intervened with a rescue ladder, helping them to descend safely. Mike Varela Jr., the chief of firefighters in Galveston, stated that the students were fine, although shocked by the experience. Terry Turney, COO of Pleasure Pier, explained that the stop was caused by a malfunction that activated the emergency stop system. Authorities assured that the ride will be inspected before being put back into operation. The Houston Independent School District confirmed that all those involved are safe and that the school administration is in contact with the families.
