A climber was rescued after being stranded on a rock in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, having only 15 centimeters for balance.

A climber was rescued after being stuck for hours on a narrow cliff, over 3,000 meters high, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California.

The man, who was climbing with a friend on Mendenhall Couloir, strayed off the route and ended up in an extremely dangerous area, with no way to turn back. A fall in that area could have been fatal, with a risk of 700 meters in free fall. The sheriff's office alerted search and rescue teams, who managed to locate him after about two hours by listening to his voice. The operation was complicated by strong winds, and a helicopter could not intervene. Rescuers decided to reach him on foot at night, using headlamps. After they got close to the climber, a team member secured him with ropes, and the operation was completed in the early hours of the morning.
