Two workers were rescued from a tunnel, nine days after the floods in Nepal

Two workers were rescued on Friday after spending nine days in a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A power plant, which was affected by the flood that occurred on the Trishuli River. The rescue operation is continuing in Nepal, where approximately 900 workers are missing in 12 hydropower projects in the Himalayas, and around 500 of them may be trapped in tunnels.

Sanjay Shah, a team leader, and Kabir Maharjan, a supervisor, were brought out from a depth of approximately 170 meters. Rescuers located them after nearly six days of searching, when they heard voices coming from inside the tunnel. Maharjan cannot move his hands and legs, while Shah's injuries are not serious. Both were taken to a hospital in Kathmandu.

The disaster began on August 26, following the collapse of a glacier. A torrent of ice, rocks, and mud swept away villages, roads, bridges, and power plants, while river levels rose by up to nine meters in just 30 minutes.
