Nepalese authorities on Sunday called for the evacuation of residents from areas downstream of the Budhi Gandaki River after a landslide blocked the watercourse and caused flooding in central Nepal. The incident occurred in Chumnubri village, in the Gorkha region, approximately 100 kilometers west of Kathmandu.
Several houses and two suspension bridges were destroyed, while a hydropower project was damaged by flash floods, according to local officials. Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the highest-ranking official in the Gorkha region, urged villagers living along the river to seek shelter and leave the exposed areas.
Flood warnings were also issued to residents of the Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, and West Nawalparasi regions. The National Disaster Management Authority called for the rapid evacuation of people at risk and support for search and rescue operations.
Army and police teams were deployed in the area to respond and monitor the situation.
