Spirit Airlines, a low-cost airline from the United States, announced that it is shutting down operations after failing to secure a $500 million bailout from the Trump administration. The company has canceled all scheduled flights, and passengers with tickets will not receive refunds.
Spirit was in discussions with the U.S. government for a bailout agreement, but negotiations failed, and the company began an orderly shutdown of operations. Fuel costs, which have risen significantly in the context of the war in Iran, were considered the 'final blow' for Spirit, which was already facing financial difficulties.
Analyst Savanthi Syth mentioned that, without the fuel issue, the company could have survived until summer. While some airlines reduced flights or raised ticket prices, Spirit was unable to adapt to the new conditions. By the end of April, the company was optimistic about a bailout agreement, but the failure of negotiations led to its collapse.
