Spain is facing the most aggressive flu epidemic in the last 15 years, with an alarming increase in the number of infections that is tripling weekly. The most affected areas are large cities, especially in the Catalonia community, where the incidence has reached 419 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a tenfold increase compared to two weeks ago. Hospitals are overcrowded, and patients are being admitted to makeshift beds in the hallways.
In the face of this crisis, Barcelona has entered a state of alert, imposing measures similar to those during the COVID pandemic, including wearing masks inside hospitals and in centers for vulnerable individuals. Experts warn that the infections are caused by a mutation of the flu virus, particularly affecting children aged between 1 and 5 years, who are showing severe symptoms.
