According to data published by the Carol III Health Institute in Madrid, 212 deaths recorded in Spain between Sunday and Wednesday can be attributed to the heatwave that affected the country.

In the same period in 2025, 98 deaths were reported for the same reasons. The estimates are based on the "MoMo" (Mortality Monitoring) system, which compares actual mortality with expected mortality, taking into account the temperatures reported by the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Although Monday and Tuesday were the hottest days recorded in June since 1950, there are no longer any active heatwave warnings on Thursday.

In the period from May to September 2025, it is estimated that 3,832 deaths could be attributed to the heat.

Spain, one of the European countries most affected by global warming, has been facing an intensification of heatwaves in recent years.
