South Korea has adopted a new set of laws, called the 'Basic Law on AI', aimed at increasing trust and security in the use of artificial intelligence. These regulations require companies to maintain human oversight over AI systems in critical sectors, such as nuclear security, health, and financial activities. Additionally, companies are obligated to inform users about the use of AI and to label content generated by it. Violating these rules can lead to severe penalties, including fines of up to 30 million won for lack of labeling. In contrast, the European Union intends to implement similar regulations by 2027, with penalties that can range between 1% and 7% of companies' revenues. However, these regulations have raised concerns among start-ups, which fear that the new rules could slow down innovation. President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the need to support small companies and to find a balance between stimulating the industry and managing risks.
