On Monday, a 64-year-old worker was hospitalized with serious injuries, including head trauma, after a section of the Torre dei Conti, a medieval tower under renovation, collapsed in the center of Rome, near the Colosseum. Two other workers suffered minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital. Three workers trapped on the scaffolding were rescued by firefighters using a ladder truck.
The firefighters' spokesperson mentioned that emergency teams worked to rescue a person trapped under the rubble. Torre dei Conti, standing at 29 meters tall, has not been used since 2006 and is undergoing renovation work that will be completed next year. The area has been closed to pedestrians due to the construction.
