In a meeting with Romanian journalists, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the leader of the Democratic group in the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, addressed the topic of Romania's accession to the Visa Waiver Program and commented on a controversial report from the U.S. Congress that criticizes the annulment of elections in Romania. Shaheen called the report a "partisan ideological document" that is not taken seriously by American officials and encouraged Romanians to ignore it.

She also mentioned that she has initiated a bill to include Romania in the Visa Waiver program, emphasizing that, although there have been advances under the Biden administration, the situation has complicated with Donald Trump's rise to power. Shaheen reaffirmed the importance of the relationship between Romania and the United States, believing that Romania should continue to see the U.S. as a strong ally.
