Nicușor Dan received letters from American officials confirming that George Simion, the leader of AUR, bragged about being responsible for blocking Romania's participation in the Visa Waiver Program. The letters, signed by Dragoș Sprinceana and Aaron Gentry, describe a meeting with Simion in which he acknowledged that he had engaged in lobbying activities to influence political decisions in the United States.

The delegation noted an inappropriate atmosphere, with alcoholic beverages present, and found Simion's statements problematic. Gentry confirmed that Simion stated in front of the delegation that he was proud of his influence over American officials, which raised questions about his behavior during the meeting. The two letters were sent on March 4, 2026, to be reviewed by the President of Romania.
