AUR leader George Simion said Thursday that he told Romania’s president, Nicușor Dan, that there can be no government without AUR and that he is responsible for the future government, which “will be a disaster,” emphasizing that at this moment there is no majority to support a government.

“If I had been at the Vatican, they would all have stayed inside, and white smoke would have emerged. Good day to Romanians who work. Yesterday, the Romanian Parliament was supposed to vote on having part-time contracts taxed fairly. An initiative supported by us. It would have corrected an injustice. This could not be done. PNL and PSD withdrew this bill, which was a breath of oxygen for working people. Many Romanians are affected. It would have allowed us to keep Romanian workers alive; I don’t know why they removed it—you should ask Bolojan,” George Simion said immediately after leaving the consultations between the AUR group and Nicușor Dan to appoint a new prime minister.

He expressed his dissatisfaction that “it has been almost three months since Nicușor Dan has kept the country in deadlock. He is responsible for the next government, which will be a disaster.”

“AUR takes responsibility for entering government. Nothing new has happened. We did not discuss anything other than what I said on June 23. I will say it once again. It will become clear that AUR will not vote for any government of which it is not a part. I put the solutions on the table. It cannot be done without AUR. It is time for him, Sorin Grindeanu, and others to stop demonizing AUR. Our position is unshakable; we are not selling out. We will not respond to any pressure aimed at making us give in. The millions of Romanians who place their trust in us must be represented in the governing structures,” Simion added.

He emphasized that it is necessary to reach “a broad majority and a government that has popular support.”

“No stable majority can be reached in Parliament. A new beginning is needed. AUR will be part of the solution,” the AUR leader further said, having gone to the negotiations with Nicușor Dan together with Petrișor Peiu and Dan Dungaciu.
