Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu and the U.S. Ambassador to Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg, co-chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission, where they discussed the expansion of educational programs and strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States.

Oana Ţoiu emphasized the importance of educational exchange programs, considering them 'a critical infrastructure of democracy' and a long-term investment in the bilateral relationship. The Fulbright program, active in Romania for over 60 years, will focus on strategic areas such as cybersecurity and technological innovation. Following the discussions, the approval of a new Romania-U.S. exchange program was announced, which will allow visits of American officials to Romania, and the relaunch of the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) for high school students.

Ambassador Nirenberg highlighted the role of the Fulbright program in strengthening bilateral relations, emphasizing the need for continuity between exchange programs to support the development of participants. This meeting marks an important step in strengthening the Romania-U.S. Strategic Partnership, focused on education and academic cooperation.

"Our partnership with the United States is stronger when we invest in the bright minds of our youth, and exchange programs are not just academic opportunities and a critical infrastructure of our democracy but an investment in the future of the relationship between the two countries. Each scholarship has a multiplying effect in our societies. When a FLEX high school student or a Fulbright researcher returns home, they bring not only knowledge but a new mindset that transforms entire communities. It is also essential for our scholars to understand the diversity and regional differences in the U.S., just as American partners are encouraged to explore the innovative potential from all regions of Romania, to understand the real complexity of countries beyond their capitals," said Minister Oana Ţoiu.
