The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, said on Friday that he has "no worries" after reports emerged in the press that the U.S. is considering the possibility of suspending Spain from NATO.
"From our point of view, there is no debate: we fulfill our obligations, we are a loyal partner, we are dedicated, involved in many areas, and therefore, we have no worries," Sanchez argued. His statements were made upon arrival at an informal meeting of European leaders in Cyprus.
Information regarding this possibility emerged while Trump has consistently expressed frustration over Spain's refusal to allow the use of its bases and airspace in the conflict with Iran, considering that this contravenes international law. Sanchez emphasized that the position of the Spanish government is clear: cooperation with allies is done within the framework of respecting international law. Additionally, the White House has developed a list of NATO states classified as "good allies" and "bad allies", and the Trump administration is preparing sanctions for those who do not support the war with Iran.
