The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine announced that the massive attacks with Russian missiles and drones on the night of January 24 damaged buildings of the Pechersk Lavra Monastery, a site included in the UNESCO World Heritage. The damages affected the facade, doors, and hardware of two buildings, including a church, and a technical inspection will be carried out to assess their structure. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, 1,640 cultural monuments and 2,446 cultural infrastructure sites have been damaged.
The monastery, known for its golden domes, has recently been in the spotlight due to the expulsion of monks with suspected ties to Moscow. The attacks that night resulted in one death and injuries to 27 others, while peace talks continued in Abu Dhabi.
