Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, using 320 drones and 37 missiles. Several regions, including Kharkiv, Poltava, and Kyiv, were targeted, causing power outages in eight regions and the shutdown of some natural gas production facilities. According to DTEK, one facility was damaged in Poltava, and Naftogaz reported the disruption of operations at some critically important sites.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia "takes advantage of every day this autumn to strike energy infrastructure," warning of an intensification of attacks as winter approaches. In the context of the deteriorating network, Zelensky is preparing to request military support from the U.S.
Russia claims it only targets military sites, while Ukraine continues to strike oil facilities in Russia with drones.
