The Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine on Monday of a deliberate attack on the facilities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which led to the fire of four storage tanks. According to the military statement, the attack occurred on the night of April 6 and was carried out with drones, aiming to destabilize the global hydrocarbon market and disrupt the supply of petroleum products to Europe.
Russia claims that this attack was directed against an international oil transportation company, targeting its shareholders, including companies from the United States and Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Defense also stated that the attack caused damage to the civilian population, including children.
The Sheskharis terminal, targeted by drones, is one of the largest oil terminals in southern Russia, with a total storage capacity of 820,000 cubic meters. The fires caused by the attacks have severely affected the infrastructure, and the terminal will not be able to continue deliveries due to the damages suffered.
