Richard Gere, a well-known American actor, harshly criticized Donald Trump's leadership, calling him "a maniac" who is destroying the fundamental values of the government and American society. The statements were made on Tuesday at the Oslo Freedom Forum, where Gere presented the international Vaclav Havel Award for creative dissent. The actor emphasized that America is going through a grim moment, highlighting his surprise at Trump's rise to the presidency. Gere acknowledged that citizens' apathy contributed to this situation, urging people to remain vigilant and not ignore the signals of a possible dictatorship. Additionally, he mentioned his recent visit to the former Nazi camp at Dachau as a warning against indifference. Richard Gere, a supporter of Tibet and converted to Buddhism, has been living in Spain since 2024.
