Sylvester Stallone has sharply criticized the United States’ military involvement in Iran and suggested that he has changed his perspective on politics in an interview with the Spanish daily El País. The 80-year-old actor made the remarks on the occasion of the release of his memoir, The Steps.
The star of Rocky and Rambo said that he hates war and questioned U.S. military interventions in other countries. Stallone said that only a country under attack would have justification for going to war and expressed regret for the soldiers whose lives are destroyed.
The actor compared the situation with the Vietnam War, the subject of the Rambo films, and criticized the role of the military-industrial complex. His remarks mark a distancing from the position he expressed in November 2024, when he described Donald Trump as “a mythical character” and “a second George Washington.”
Stallone clarified, however, that he does not want to be involved in politics. He also revealed that he turned down a role as a “special ambassador” for Hollywood, which he says he learned about from CNN and considered ridiculous.
