A satirical sculpture targeting US President Donald Trump has been installed at the European Parliament, where it will remain on display until Thursday. The work, created by Danish artist Jens Galschiot, was installed in a passageway connecting two of the institution’s buildings and criticizes the American leader’s positions on climate change.
Entitled “The Orange Plague” and also known as “The King of Injustice,” the sculpture is 2.5 meters tall and covered in 23-karat gold, according to the artist. The statue depicts Trump naked, holding a long golden golf club and standing on the shoulders of a much smaller man.
Explanatory cards placed beside the work convey the message that “The King of Injustice” is pressing down on the back of a man sinking under the weight. “I would do anything to help him. Except get off his back,” the text presented to the public states.
Danish left-wing MEP Per Clausen, who invited the artist, said he was not afraid of a possible reaction from Donald Trump. The US president has not commented on the sculpture so far. The work has previously been displayed in other European cities and at the UN climate change conference COP30, held in Belém, Brazil.
