Actor and director George Clooney stated on Wednesday that the United States will surpass the 'unfortunate' period it is going through under the administration of Donald Trump. During a press conference before the opening of the Venice Film Festival, Clooney criticized the government, describing it as being led by 'the least qualified people', using the term 'kakistocracy'. He expressed optimism, stating that 'we will recover'.
Clooney will be honored with a Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the festival, where he will open the event alongside Danny Boyle. The festival director, Alberto Barbera, emphasized that the award is a recognition of his talent as an actor and director, beyond his public image. The festival will run until September 12, featuring a diverse program, including documentaries and films about contemporary conflicts.
