On Sunday, 30 prisoners were released in Venezuela according to the amnesty law adopted under pressure from the United States, announces the NGO Foro Penal. Among those released are at least seven members of the opposition, including Juan Freites, supported by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado. She welcomed Freites' return and promised that the fight for freedom will continue. So far, 379 political prisoners have been released under this law, and 1,557 detainees have requested amnesty. On the same day, over 200 prisoners went on a hunger strike, believing they are excluded from this law. Interim President Delcy Rodriguez has initiated a normalization of relations with Washington, interrupted since 2019.
