Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Monday in St. Petersburg with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where he emphasized Russia's commitment to contributing to the restoration of peace in the Middle East.
“We will do everything that serves your interests, the interests of all the peoples in the region, so that peace can be achieved as soon as possible,” Vladimir Putin told Abbas Araghchi.
Araghchi blamed Washington for the failure of the peace talks.
Putin stated that he received a message from Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and expressed gratitude for the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
“Last week I received a message from the Supreme Leader of Iran. I would like to ask you to convey my sincerest thanks for this and to confirm that Russia, like Iran, intends to continue our strategic relationship,” Vladimir Putin said.
Relations between Russia and Iran have strengthened, considering the 20-year strategic partnership agreement, which includes cooperation in the nuclear field and the supply of drones.
Russia has offered to mediate for peace in the region and to store Iran's enriched uranium, a proposal rejected by the United States.
