Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of intensifying attacks on civilian infrastructure, particularly through a drone strike that affected a oil refinery in the city of Tuapse. Putin stated that these attacks are becoming more frequent, having the potential to cause serious environmental damage.
Although the regional governor reported that there are no major threats, a large fire broke out at the refinery, confirmed by the Ukrainian army as part of a strategy to disrupt the Russian oil industry. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors, and Putin ordered the coordination of firefighting operations. This is the third attack on the Tuapse refinery, which has already suffered significant damage in previous attacks.
The Kremlin accused Ukraine of exacerbating the global oil crisis, while residents in the area express anger over the lack of air defense protection. Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian energy targets in the context of the suspension of peace negotiations. The Tuapse refinery has an annual capacity of 12 million tons.
