An industrial facility in Kstovo District, Nizhny Novgorod Region, located approximately 400 kilometers east of Moscow, was hit on Sunday in a massive drone attack attributed to Ukraine. Russian authorities reported significant damage but no casualties.
The region’s governor, Gleb Nikitin, said the attack took place overnight and on Sunday morning. According to him, more than 100 drones were destroyed. The official did not specify what activities the targeted facility carries out.
Ukrainian media reported that the target was the Kstovo oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest facilities of its kind, where fuels and lubricants are produced. The information has not been officially confirmed by Russian authorities.
The attack comes days after Moscow announced the resumption of Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. On Friday, Deputy Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that three refineries had been attacked on the same day.
Kyiv regularly strikes industrial and energy infrastructure in Russia, seeking to disrupt the flow of hydrocarbons that helps finance the Kremlin’s war effort. Ukraine presents these attacks as retaliation for Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
