A pro-government demonstration took place on Friday morning on the waterfront in Havana, in support of former communist leader Raúl Castro, after a week of intense mobilization by Cuban officials. The authorities in Havana rejected the accusations made by the United States regarding the downing of two civilian planes nearly 30 years ago, calling them "false" and claiming that they could serve as a pretext for a possible American intervention. The protest was attended by President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, but Raúl Castro, at the age of 94, was absent. At the same time, American President Donald Trump stated that he is considering possible measures against Cuba, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the Cuban regime of representing a threat to U.S. national security due to its relations with China and Russia. Rubio also specified that the American administration prefers a diplomatic solution, although the available options are limited.
