The Ministry of Agriculture has announced preventive measures for backyard birds, following the increased risks associated with avian influenza in Europe. These measures include the prohibition of feeding backyard birds in open spaces and the use of common water sources with wild birds. The decision was made in the context of rising cases of deadly avian influenza, which has led to restrictions in several countries, where millions of backyard birds are kept indoors to protect them. The H5N1 virus has caused significant damage, killing or leading to the culling of hundreds of millions of birds, affecting supply and driving up food prices. So far, 15 of the 27 EU member states have reported outbreaks of avian influenza this season, with a total of 688 cases, compared to 189 last year, most of which are spread through the migration of wild birds.
